Red Rift is the harder contract, with tougher enemies and extra missions on top. The mistake people make is bringing an Endless mindset into it.
The change in approach
In Endless you build something that scales, because the fight never ends. In Red Rift your first job is to survive Act 1 and finish the missions. Scaling comes after that.
The structure that works is the plain one: something that holds the front, something that deals damage, something that keeps them alive. Get all three before you get clever.
Act 1, the part that decides the run
These eleven points come from the General Red Rift guide by Toth201 on Steam, the only community guide published for the game so far. The framing is theirs; the hero data is ours.
- Avoid starting relics that cost gold, unless you have a hero that can carry alone
- Buy two heroes early, with roughly 30 shards available
- Reroll the shop often to improve your odds of a rank B hero
- Treat common items as a piggy bank: temporary power you are not committed to
- Take challenge rooms early while they are still winnable, so they are not waiting for you in Act 2
- Put your items on the tank
- Work out the direction of the team early, from the heroes you have been offered
- Make sure the non tanks survive area damage
- Finish anchor segments deliberately, tank and vanguard parts first
- Buy keys late in Act 1, when they cost less
- Only skip a campfire if you cannot rank a hero or reset a shard stabiliser
Heroes that can carry alone
The guide names four. They have almost nothing in common statistically, which is the point: it is the specialization doing the work, not the stat line.
Act 2 and the dragons
Act 2 is for finalising the composition, itemising, and picking up backups. The guide is blunt about the ratio: most runs are won or lost in Act 1, though a lucky relic or hero can still rescue a bad one.
On dragons, the short version is that the Poison Dragon is the easiest, and Frost suits a team already built around frost effects.
Leaderboards and resets
There are three leaderboards. Merged and SSS both reset with the weekly patch, so a score has a one week life. Red Rift runs on a much longer cycle and works more like a season.
The historical Hall of Fame is posted by the developers in their Discord, not on a website.
